January 28, 2015- Marc Bucklin’s Physical Education class, “Personal Fitness & Weight Management” exemplifies 21st century teaching and learning practices. The course is offered to upperclassmen and is truly designed to equip students for healthy lives after high school, applying lessons from lectures in real-world applications. Which brings up the the coolest part of this special class: at least three days a week, students take the short bus ride over to the stunning Upper Valley Aquatic Center (UVAC), a 37,500 square-foot facility that features a state-of-the-art, 11-lane pool; splash park for lil’ guys; a group-class space, and a fully equipped fitness room.

Trainers greet students upon their arrival and lead them through a series of warm-up exercises. At the beginning of each semester, students go through an orientation that teaches them how to properly use all of the strength and cardio machines. Throughout the semester, Mr. Bucklin coaches each student as s/he moves at his or her own pace, progressing through individualized training regimes. Students buddy up to spot one another and provide moral support.
