HHS: New Year, New Semester

HHS: New Year, New Semester

January 14, 2016- HHS got off to a smooth and positive start in 2015. Students and teachers were eager to get the year going and everyone jumped in, head first.

Some highlights: Fall sports had some victories, but the teams are young and anticipate more state playoff competitions next year as they mature. The annual fall musical, Monty Python’s Spamalot, delighted audiences as a first year actor, senior Luke Lafontaine, played the starring role as King Arthur. New clubs were launched: Yoga, Film, History of Rap Music, LARPing (Live Action Role Playing), HSD Press Corps.

Perhaps the biggest highlight occurred during the holiday season. Despite the unseasonably warm weather, the esteemed character of the student body shined as the spirit of generosity was palpable. In addition to the annual Student Council sponsored Christmas Project, Advisories sponsored multiple food, clothing and money drives.

The upbeat attitude persists as we kick off 2016. The Creative Improvement Council gifted a new art project to the school (check out future posts to see photos!) and new murals have been added to the HACTC hallways.

This week, students sit diligently for their first semester exams while gearing up for new classes.

As for this teacher-author, although my Press Corps dwindled as sports and the musical took precedence in the student-journalists’ lives, I have made a new year’s resolution to post weekly updates as to our goings-on.

Keep an eye on the HSD homepage, and Happy 2016!
