He also encourages the community to check out the school website and Facebook page to see the amazing things that are happening daily.

    • Rick Dustin-Eichler shares two clips from WCAX. The first clip focuses on a program that has been going on for 3 years where 5th graders interview individuals to learn why they vote and participate in the democratic process. They normally just visit the polls; however, this year, the 5th graders visited Montpelier to ask lawmakers why they vote and feel it is important to participate in government. The students also had a chance to talk to the Governor Shumlin. The second clip focuses on DBS being named a model school for their counseling program by the American Association of School Counselors. DBS is only the second school in Vermont to have received this recognition.  Also, Rebecca Lallier was named Vermont state counselor of the year. She has a huge impact on the lives of students and the award is well-deserved for her work at DBS and work on behalf of school counselors in the country.

    • Lori Dickerson thanks Rick Dustin-Eichler. She then introduces James Dixon, HHS English teacher and speech/debate team coach. James Dixon explains that the team participates in competitions throughout Vermont and in Hanover and that the debate team has been very successful. Both speech and debate help students develop integral skills that are necessary for college and career success. This year, the team won the Vermont speech state tournament. He would like to recognize all of the members of the speech team for their willingness to try something new and for their success. HHS junior Lucy Danger won first place with a speech revolving around the representation of minorities in the media, which is one part of her work to eradicate discrimination in her community. Lucy Danger presents her speech.

    • Lori Dickerson thanks James Dixon and Lucy Danger. Peter Merrill reads off other state and national accomplishments made by faculty/staff and students on the state or national level.
