Wilder Building Study Committee Meeting Minutes - 5-2-2018

Meeting was called to order at 5:00. Present were: Doug Heavisides, Jessica Poludin, Rhett Darak, David Harris, Peter Merrill, Tom DeBalsi, Roisin Viens

Peter called the meeting to order at 5:03. The discussion began regarding Dave and Byron (Director of Facilities and Grounds) visit with and tour of the Wilder School and HARP with a local realtor. The realtor, Chip Brown, a commercial realtor in the Upper Valley. Dave asked Chip to:
  • Review the program needs
  • Research the real estate market in Hartford, and see if there were rental properties that could accommodate one or both of the programs
  • Review land options if we were to consider building a new building
  • Review and comment on the Wilder School proposal.  Does he think that one or both programs would fit in that building were it to be renovated?
  • If we did renovate the Wilder School, RAP would likely need a temporary home during construction.  What options are there in the market for a short-term rental?
  • Provide any professional comments he thought might be relevant

Chip had a few questions for all of us as follows:

  • How many kids are in each program today and what is the future growth projection?
  • How many educators and administrators both now and in the future?
  • What is the size of the HARP building (…dimensions and SF)?
  • Could HARP or RAP move to another town…like Lebanon, for instance, or does it need to stay in Hartford?
  • Can both programs co-exist in the same building (…we asked that as well)?  And if so, what sort of building separation would be necessary

The group spent the remainder of the evening reviewing answers Chips questions.

The next meeting will be moved to a Thursday evening. The focus will be on the best way to proceed. Tom has contacted DEW Construction to assist in exploring ways to go forward.
