Enroll a New Student
Please be aware of the school year you are registering your child for.
Students not currently enrolled in the Hartford School District will need to complete the new student registration for the upcoming school year, including students enrolling in an Act 166 partner prek program.
Please read the following information carefully to help you through the registration process. Be sure to gather the required documents before starting your application and/or registration to ensure a smooth process. You will need: a copy of the student’s birth certificate and a proof of residency within Hartford (ex., tax bill, lease agreement, or a utility bill with your physical address listed). Existing Families - PreK to 12th Grade
Registration Directions for Existing Families (already has a student in the district)
An existing family is a household that has an active (current) student enrolled in the district. If you need to enroll a new or additional student into your current household please follow the steps below:
Step 1: Parent Portal
Log into the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you do not yet have a Parent Portal please contact your school’s administrative assistant.

Step 3: Confirmation
After your information has been reviewed by the district registrar, you will receive an email confirming your registration’s acceptance or rejection.
New Families - PreK to 12th Grade

A new family is a household that does not have an active (current) student enrolled in the district:

Step 2: Documentation needed to complete the online registration
- Proof of Residency (for example, a current utility bill showing the address, with the name and date matching the household information, or a signed and dated lease.) Your registration will not be processed without this information.
- Birth certificate
- Driver’s license
- For Families tuitioning to the Middle or High School need to have this form completed: HSD Tuition Voucher
Step 3: Confirmation
After your information has been reviewed by the registrar, you will receive an email confirming your registrations acceptance or rejection. Please follow up with your assigned school for next steps.
Residency Definition
A legal resident of Vermont and of a school district is someone who meets the following criteria:
- Domicile: a person’s true, fixed, and permanent home. You maintain a principal dwelling place in the school district indefinitely and, if temporarily absent, intend to return there, coupled with an act or acts consistent with that intent. A person may have only one residence at a given time.
- Physical presence: You are physically present in Vermont for more than 183 days of the taxable year.
- Homestead: A homestead is the principal dwelling and parcel of land surrounding the dwelling, owned and occupied by the resident as the person's domicile. All property is considered non-homestead, unless it is declared as a homestead.
Residency: False Claims
Falsifying residency within the jurisdiction of a supervisory union school district is illegal and punishable by law. 13 V.S.A. § 3016
Hartford School District reserves the right to request up-to-date information/proof of residency if the district has reason to believe the conditions of residency have changed. Residency can be reviewed at any time, and findings and determinations will be independent of anything previously decided.
The district shall, consistent with State statute, deny enrollment for pupils who are not legal residents of the district or who do not meet the statutory exceptions to the residency requirements.
