Extracurricular Activities
The Hartford School District recognizes the need for comprehensive student activities outside of regular school hours to enhance curriculum, content learning outcomes, and transferable skills. Extra-curricular activities provide new learning experiences, develop a greater sense of belonging within the community, and allow students the opportunity to develop socially, intellectually, emotionally, and physically. The Hartford School District believes the successful operation of any extra-curricular program is dependent upon the formation of sound policy and clear guidelines. These elements provide the extra-curricular programs with a sound base which allows for flexibility due to changing needs and still functions within the framework of the educational and organizational policies of the Hartford School Board and the state of Vermont.
Health Information
School staff members SHOULD NOT come to school with any of the following symptoms:
- Fever: temperature of 100 degrees F or greater. You MUST be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication (i.e. ibuprofen, acetaminophen, Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, etc.) before returning to school.
- Sore Throat: with fever and/or swollen glands in the neck. If you are diagnosed with strep, you MUST be on antibiotics for a full 24 hours before returning to school.
- Eyes: thick mucus/pus draining from one or both eyes or “pink eye” (symptoms include white or yellow discharge, eyelids matted together after sleep, eye discomfort, and/or redness). If diagnosed with pink eye, you MUST be on antibiotic drops for a full 24 hours before returning to school.
- Vomiting: 1 or more times at home within the last 12 hour period. You MUST stay home until it has been 24 hours since the last episode of vomiting.
- Diarrhea: 1 or more times within the last 12 hour period. You MUST stay home until it has been 24 hours since the last episode of diarrhea.
- Rash: significant body rash accompanied by itching and/or fever
- Lice/Scabies: MUST be treated prior to returning to school
You CAN COME to school with the following symptoms:
- Runny/stuffy nose and/or mild cough WITHOUT a fever
- Vague complaints of aches, pains, or fatigue WITHOUT a fever
- Ear infections WITHOUT a fever
- Sore throat with hoarse voice WITHOUT a fever
Staff members with potentially infectious symptoms (such as cough, sore throat, or copious nasal drainage) who are well enough to attend school may be asked to wear a mask in order to help limit the spread of the illness to others. Masks are available in the nurse’s office.
