Join Colin Butler, Hartford School Board Member, on Thursday 10/15 at 1:15pm, for a special presentation and discussion at Bugbee about the Hartford School Board budget.The legislature passed several pieces of legislation that will impact Hartford schools for years to come. Act 169 reduces the amount of funds a district can budget without penalty. It is forecast currently that this will mean a reduction in Hartford’s budget of almost $5 million next year with additional cuts in subsequent years. This means we’ll have to consider closing one or more schools and terminating upwards of 25% of district staff. Act 170 mandates that all school districts in Vermont join merger study groups to determine if a merger of neighboring districts might save money and produce better results. Hartford will be discussing merger with Windsor and Mountain Views (Woodstock).
